A car struck two students this morning on a sidewalk near the corner of N. 17th St. and Wisconsin Ave., according to an email sent by the university to the Marquette community. Both students were immediately taken to Froedtert Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
The accident took place around 9 a.m. The Milwaukee Police Department told Today’s TMJ4 that the vehicle also struck a parked car, a fire hydrant and a lightpole before being stopped by the Department of Public Safety and subsequently taken into custody by the Milwaukee Police Department.
Vice President of Student Affairs L. Christopher Miller wrote in the 11:30 a.m. campus-wide email that Marquette will “keep the campus community informed as more information is made available.”
The university is holding a prayer and support gathering at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Family in the Alumni Memorial Union and encouraged students who may have witnessed the accident to seek help from the counseling center and campus ministry.
