Over spring break I spent a lot of time doing a whole lot of nothing. That nothingness of course included TV watching, and while channel surfing I landed on some of the old networks I used to spend hours watching when I was growing up.
As I watched what they had to offer, it occurred to me that the shows of today are nothing at all like the shows we grew up with in the ’90s.
Now with shows like “iCarly,” “Hannah Montana” and “Wizards of Waverly Place,” I can’t help but wonder: What’s happened to kids’ programming?
I miss the old days of tuning in to see how the “Rugrats” gang manages to get out of their play pen and accomplish their mission, making it back just in time to receive a cookie or some sort of praise from their oblivious parents.
Luckily, all the diehard Nickelodeon fans like me will be able to relive their childhood in the fall of 2011.
The program called “The ’90s Are All That” will begin airing in the fall during the 12 to 2 a.m. time slot, featuring classics like “Clarissa Explains It All,” “All That,” “Rugrats,” “Rocket Power,” “Kenan & Kel” and “The Amanda Show.”
The airing time for the shows may seem inconvenient, but it’s geared toward those of us who grew up during the ’90s, now roughly 17 to 25, who are more likely to be up during these late hours.
Even though the timing may not be ideal, I will definitely be one of those people staying up, not due to the continuation of my homework but so I can cram in as much oldies as I can television-wise.
It’s been a sad decade for cartoons since some of these classics went off the air, and I need to make up for that, hardcore.
