Four suspects are in police custody following an armed robbery of a student early Saturday morning in the off-campus neighborhood.
The Department of Public Safety reported the four suspects, described as a group of men about 20-years-old all wearing dark clothing, approached the male student and asked for his belongings in the 1800 block of West State Street shortly after 1 a.m. One of the men displayed what appeared to be a black handgun.
The student gave them his wallet, iPod and cell phone, and the suspects fled northbound across State Street. The student was uninjured.
Within hours of the incident, Milwaukee Police Department officers located four subjects fitting the descriptions of the robbers near the intersection of North 17th Street and Highland Boulevard. The suspects had the victim’s wallet, iPod and cell phone in their possession. Officers also confiscated a black, semiautomatic-style BB gun.
The men were taken to the MPD District 3 station and cited for armed robbery.
DPS issued an e-mail alert informing students about the robbery at 2:51 a.m. Another message was sent to students at 3:50 a.m. after the suspects had been apprehended.
