The first robbery, around 8:20 p.m., occurred in an alleyway behind the 900 block of North 17th Street when a male subject approached a male Marquette student, according to a Special Safety Alert issued by the university.
According to Capt. Russ Shaw, associate director of the Department of Public Safety, the student said the suspect displayed what appeared to be a small, silver handgun.
When the student told the suspect that he had no property on him, the suspect let him go and fled, Shaw said.
At around 10:08 p.m., the second incident occurred in the 500 block of North 17th Street. According to the alert, this incident involved two male subjects who approached a 54-year-old man not affiliated with Marquette.
"The victim also reported that a suspect put an object up against the back of his head," Shaw said. "Even though the object could have been anything, in these types of situations, I would have to assume it's a weapon."
The victim in the second incident handed over $420 to the suspects, who then fled the scene in a vehicle. The victim was then able to receive assistance from a Marquette student and called DPS, Shaw said.
Neither victim was injured in the robberies.
The victims were unable to give a clear description of the suspects, Shaw said. However, Shaw added that from the limited descriptions provided, the incidents appear to be unrelated.
According to Shaw, an individual has been located who matches a description in one of the incidents. Shaw said the Milwaukee Police Department was questioning the individual, but was not aware as to whether he had been taken into custody.
