For the person who constantly reminds you they're Irish: "Once"
"Once," which comes to DVD Dec. 18, was one of the most beloved films of 2007. Glen Hansard, front man for the Irish band The Frames, collaborates with former bandmate turned director John Carney to create a hybrid of a movie that combines elements of a musical, drama and romantic comedy and blends them together with a distinctively Irish twist. It's a must-have for music fans, especially Irish ones. Price: $19.99
For the young at heart: "Ratatouille," "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"
Pixar's latest and greatest achievement to date, the brilliant "Ratatouille," would make a perfect gift for children or adults, while the fifth (and arguably best) "Harry Potter" movie, arrives in stores Dec. 11. Prices: "Ratatouille" ($14.99), "Harry Potter" ($15.99)
For the completist: "Shrek the Third," "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," "Spider-Man 3," "Ocean's Thirteen," "The Bourne Ultimatum"
The "Shrek," "Pirates," "Spiderman,"
"Bourne" and "Ocean" series all saw third installments hit theaters and DVD in 2007. Of those, "Bourne Ultimatum" (to be released Dec. 11) is easily the best – the most thrilling, frantic, madcap installment of the Matt Damon franchise. The rest? Not the greatest, but for those who absolutely must complete their collections, they could make for easy gifts. Prices: "Shrek" ($14.99), "Pirates" ($14.99), "Spider-Man 3" ($19.99), "Ocean's" ($16.99), "Bourne" ($16.99).
For the nature aficionado: "Planet Earth" and "The Blue Planet: Seas of Life Collector's Set"
Earlier this year, the BBC aired its wildly ambitious $25 million, 11-part, 550-minute documentary series on the Discovery Channel to much acclaim and fanfare. Now the set is available on DVD, and it is an absolute must-have. Episodes focus on everything from emperor penguins in Antarctica to forest elephants in the Congo. Word to the wise: make sure your set is narrated by Brit David Attenborough, not American Sigourney Weaver (who sounds flat, boring and disinterested in the material). The set has also renewed interest in BBC's earlier documentary series on life under the sea, "The Blue Planet," also narrated by Attenborough. Prices: "Planet Earth" ($54.99), "Blue Planet" ($28.99)
For the romantic comedy lover: "Waitress"
The best romantic comedy in recent memory, the charming and funny "Waitress" features Keri Russell as a pregnant, small-town pie-maker stuck in a loveless marriage who enters a love affair with her doctor (Nathan Fillion) to mask her despair. Price: $19.99
For the action junkie: "Transformers" and "300"
The two fun but equally mindless blockbusters, "Transformers" and "300," would make perfect gifts for those with short attention spans. Prices: "Transformers" ($14.99), "300" ($13.99)
For the musically inclined (or for the Zac Efron stalkers): "Hairspray" and "High School Musical 1 & 2"
Zac Efron stars in both "High School" musicals and "Hairspray," a musical set in racially segregated 1960s America that also features the talents of Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken and John Travolta (in drag and a fat suit instead of greased hair and a white jumpsuit). Prices: "High School" 1 ($17.99) and 2 ($15.99), "Hairspray" ($19.99)
For the Judd Apatow Fan Club Member: "Knocked Up," "Superbad," "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and "Freaks and Geeks: The Complete Series"
Who is Judd Apatow, you ask? Well, Entertainment Weekly just named him the smartest person in Hollywood. Apatow wrote and directed "Knocked Up" and produced "Superbad", two of 2007's biggest hits. Before that, he directed "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and executive produced "Freaks and Geeks," a beloved cult TV show that was canceled after one season. Prices: "Knocked Up" ($15.99), "Superbad" ($16.99), "Virgin" ($8.99), "Freaks" ($54.99)
For the Francophile: "Paris Je T'aime" and "La Vie en Rose"
Both films feature beautiful shots of the "City of Lights" (Paris). "Je T'aime" is a collection of 18 short films (some subtitled, some not) about the city, while "La Vie" tells the story of famous French singer Edith Piaf. Prices: "Paris" ($19.99), "La Vie" ($19.99)
For the nostalgic: "My So-Called Life: The Complete Series"
The 1990s teen-angst drama "My So-Called Life," which launched the career of Claire Danes, has been released in a new DVD set, featuring all 19 episodes, a 36 page accompanying book and various documentaries. Price: $69.99
