For someone who has been around and participating in journalism for 19 years, I'm not sure why Nov. 1 "Prowling in Panther territory-—Life at UWM" by Sarah Milnar is considered an article, much more a news piece, because usually they are not riddled with opinion.
I can't find the objectivity in this story anywhere. I can't find a single quote from a UWM student that says anything good about this school, which would make sense because anything having to do with our school (except the basketball team) is answered by freshmen.
I feel sorry for the girl who has a misinformed opinion on her education, but we have excellent programs.
Architecture, nursing and obviously from this poorly written article our journalism program is a little tougher to get through than that of other schools.
I'm not denying the fact that generally Marquette is harder to get into than UWM but bringing up this topic is showing that this writer or this paper is still stuck in high school.
No, I don't think UWM will apologize for giving people a chance. I know this is not how Marquette as a whole views UWM. At least I hope not. I have a lot of friends at Marquette and my father is an instructor for the journalism department.
I really can't see why this was printed; it was poorly written and childish. Is this what qualifies as news?
Talking about how much better your school is than ours? I hope not and sincerely wish that this article is addressed with a more serious attitude.
Again remember to be professional and play fair. This held up to neither which can tarnish your paper's reputation. I wouldn't put this in your clip file.
