Head Coach Terri Mitchell pledged that she will donate $1 for every fan at the Bradley Center over 4,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee.,”Marquette students' presence at the women's basketball game this Saturday against the Wisconsin Badgers is worth a lot.
Head Coach Terri Mitchell pledged that she will donate $1 for every fan at the Bradley Center over 4,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee.
Mitchell has been named Big East Coach of the year for her strong and tenacious coaching skills, but her genuine and generous character deserves recognition as well. Marquette students have the opportunity to recognize her kindness by merely showing up at the game Saturday. A crowd of 5,000 will mean a $1,000 donation to an extremely worthy cause.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee is one of the most successful and valuable programs in Milwaukee that truly makes a difference in thousands of children's lives every year. Many of these children may not have the role models that many Marquette students have been privileged to have.
The program's vision is "to provide successful mentoring relationships for every child who needs and wants one, contributing to brighter futures, better schools and stronger communities for all," as stated on their Web site.
Sporting events bring excitement to our lives on a regular basis. People live and die with their team's victories and losses. Fantasy sports online distract students from homework, and if we can't watch the games, we look for our teams' progress on an ESPN or CSTV Gametracker.
Victories and progression are obviously important to the Marquette Basketball teams and their fans, but Mitchell's pledge points toward something that is much more important than the game. Marquette is truly lucky to have a coach who is an example to our own community, and the Milwaukee community as a whole, in that she is inspiring all to remember what truly matters.
We advise Marquette students to pack the Bradley Center this Saturday to support not only our talented women's basketball team, but also Coach Mitchell and the notion that giving back to the community should always come first.
