The Department of Public Safety apprehended three suspects Tuesday night who were involved in last week's armed robbery in the 800 block of North 15th Street.
The campus community was alerted to this robbery through a Special Safety Alert issued by the university Oct. 23.
According to the DPS report, an officer reported seeing a vehicle that matched the description listed in the alert around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Shortly after the officer radioed in his observation, another DPS officer began to follow the vehicle at a safe distance.
"The reason we followed the vehicle was so we could get a better description of both the car and the individuals inside of it," said DPS Lt. Paul Mascari.
However, before that information could be determined, the driver voluntarily pulled over and asked why she was being followed, Mascari said. At that point, it became clear to the officer that the car as well two of its occupants matched the alert's descriptions, Mascari said.
The three juvenile subjects, 15-, 16- and 17-year-old females, were then questioned by the Milwaukee Police Department officer who responded to the scene. According to Mascari, all three admitted to being involved with Tuesday's robbery after questioning and were taken into custody by MPD.
"At this point, the only word we have received from MPD is that the three suspects confessed and they will be charged with strong-armed robbery," Mascari said.
