Marquette managed just two shots on goal, while Providence fired five. Senior Ryan Maduro scored in the 63rd minute for Providence when he headed a throw-in over goalkeeper Matt Pyzdrowski's head from five yards out. Freshman forward Alex Redding scored about 15 minutes later for the Friars when he fired a shot from eight yards that slammed off the crossbar and went in the net.
The game was Marquette's last Big East match until Oct. 20 when they face Georgetown at Valley Fields.
