According to the report, the two students, a 21-year-old male and a 21 year-old-female, were walking in the 1300 block of West Wells Street at 2:38 a.m.,”Two students were victims of a strong-armed robbery early Thursday morning, according to Department of Public Safety reports.
According to the report, the two students, a 21-year-old male and a 21-year-old-female, were walking in the 1300 block of West Wells Street at 2:38 a.m. At the corner of 13th and Wells streets, the male student was struck from behind with a closed fist. The female was also struck with a closed fist.
The suspect grabbed the female victim's purse, which contained her cell phone, said Capt. Russ Shaw, associate director of DPS.
According to Shaw, an individual not affiliated with Marquette witnessed the scene and immediately dialed 911.
The suspect, a 23-year-old male, was found on the corner of 14th and State streets, Shaw said. According to Shaw, the Milwaukee Police Department was then able to take him into custody.
"This was partly thanks to really great work by the witness," Shaw said.
Shaw said there was also a possible vehicle involved in this crime. The suspected vehicle was found unoccupied in the 900 block of North 14th Street. MPD was then able to locate the owner, who was taken into custody for being party to a crime, Shaw said.
The identity of the 23-year-old man is in question, according to MPD Spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz. The suspect was in possession of a false identification card when he was arrested, she said.
"MPD is working to identify the suspect," Schwartz said.
Both victims sustained minor injuries and were offered first aid at the scene, Shaw said. However, according to the report, medical assistance was declined.
