Sex offender arrested for indecency

  • On Friday evening, a registered sex offender was arrested by MPD for behaving in a lewd and lascivious manner in his 14th Street apartment.
  • The subject, who was found guilty of six felonies in 2002, was exposing himself to students walking by his apartment.

Friday evening, the Milwaukee Police Department arrested a 29-year-old registered sex offender in his apartment near campus for acting in an indecent and obscene manner.

"MPD flagged us down because they were getting reports that the subject was exposing himself to people passing by his apartment," said DPS Lt. Paul Mascari. "They found out what room he was in and took the suspect into custody for lewd and lascivious behavior."

A female student, who initially witnessed the subject's indecent exposure while walking through an alley in the 800 block of North 14th Street the evening of Feb. 10, reported the incident to authorities.

According to the student, who is a senior in the College of Communication, her two roommates witnessed a similarly explicit incident as they walked through the alley Thursday night.

The subject was registered as a sex offender and sentenced to time in prison in October 2002 after he was found guilty of attempted kidnapping, carrying a weapon without consent, lewd and lascivious behavior-exposure, three counts of causing a child to view sexual activity and two counts of child enticement-sexual contact.

He was released from prison in April 2008 and is under active community supervision until April 2018, according to the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

The man has been residing in the off-campus apartment since May 2008. He is in compliance with supervision requirements of the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program.

"MPD is trying to figure out how many victims there were in this case, so if anyone else feels that they were a victim they can contact our department and we will contact MPD," Mascari said.
