"Jessica's really been training hard," coach Bert Rogers said. "She's been putting in time with our throws coach and you can see the extra training paying off."

Freshman Billy Schlottke also won his event. His blistering 1:58.10 time in the 800-meters was almost two seconds faster than the next finisher.

Other Big East meet qualifiers included Alyssa Davis and Albojay Deacon in the triple jump, Jayne Grebinski in the mile run, and T.J. Hodgson's feat in the high jump.

The Golden Eagles battle again Friday at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. Rogers said the two-day meet is one of the biggest of the year for MU.
