A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of 16th and Wells Streets yesterday around 6:40 p.m.
The driver of the car was going north on 16th Street and approaching the green light at Wells Street when he saw a man walking across the intersection. The driver moved from the right lane into the left turn lane to avoid the pedestrian, but the pedestrian was startled and moved into the path of the vehicle. The pedestrian landed on the hood of the car and rolled off onto the pavement.
"He was wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans — it was so hard to see him," the driver said. "He had the 'no walk' sign and I tried my best to avoid him. If he wouldn't have jumped back I wouldn't have hit him."
The pedestrian will be issued a citation for jaywalking.
The pedestrian was not seriously injured and there was no damage to the vehicle, according to the driver.
The pedestrian received minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital by the Milwaukee Fire Department.
