Midterm exams are right around the corner, and for many students this can be a stressful time. But never fear! Follow these six helpful tips to prepare for midterms without exhausting yourself.
1. Start studying early. Don’t wait until the weekend before exams to open your textbook for the first time. Start reviewing your notes and reading the chapters in advance.
2. Make use of your professors’ office hours. If you haven’t stopped in to your professors’ offices yet, do so. They’re there for a reason –– to make themselves available to you. Not only is this a great way to review material, but it also scores you face-time with your teachers, establishing a relationship with them and showing them you care about your work.
3. Study in groups. Even if you prefer to work alone, reviewing material with your classmates and friends is a great way to prepare. It can be helpful to get your peers’ points of views on the subject, and often times things will be clarified or simplified. Studying in groups is especially helpful if you feel you missed something in lecture.
4. Attend review sessions. If you’re fortunate enough to have your professors set up a review session prior to the test, make sure you go to it. Most review sessions will provide students with necessary insight to the specifics of each test.
5. Prioritize. Decide what exams you need to study the most for, and schedule the most time to prepare for those. Dedicate the majority of your time to the classes for which you feel the least prepared.
6. Don’t stress out. Make sure to schedule study breaks, eat healthy and get plenty of sleep. Cramming will do you no good if you get sick or run-down before the exam.
