According to DPS reports, three juveniles, not affiliated with Marquette approached two contractors working in the 2000 block of W. Wisconsin Avenue shortly after noon. The suspects then displayed what appeared to be a small handgun and demanded money from the men.
Associate Director of DPS Capt. Russ Shaw, said one of the victims prepared to defend himself by pulling out a screwdriver and advancing toward the suspects, causing them to flee the scene.
DPS physically detained two of the suspects shortly after the incident occurred. The Milwaukee Police Department arrested the third suspect at his residence later in the afternoon, Shaw said.
All three suspects are high school students from out of the area, Shaw said.
After searching the scene, MPD officers discovered the alleged weapon underneath a vehicle in the area.
"It actually turned out to be a replica pistol," Shaw said.
According to Shaw, although none of the individuals involved were affiliated with Marquette, a report was still filed because the incident occurred in the DPS patrol area.
