"I used to wet the bed a lot and I had a recurring dream that I was in Milwaukee," said Sia, who sang "In the Waiting Line " with Zero 7 in the movie "Garden State.,”Indie pop starlet Sia Furler has a problem, but not a real one.
The Australian born singer, who plays the Turner Hall Ballroom, 1032 N. 4th St., Wednesday at 8 p.m., has to relive some past issues when coming to Milwaukee.
"I used to wet the bed a lot and I had a recurring dream that I was in Milwaukee," said Sia, who sang "In the Waiting Line " with Zero 7 in the movie "Garden State."
The quirky and comical Sia dreamt she was in the TV show "Happy Days," which is set in Milwaukee.
In the dream, she needed to go to the bathroom and stumbled upon the Cunningham's house.
"Richie would answer the door," Sia said. Once she entered the house, she said hello to Mr. Cunningham and walked up the stairs to the bathroom.
"Joanie would be in the loo," Sia said. So, she would bang on the bathroom door until Joanie came out. Once she came out, Sia would rush in. After being in the bathroom for a couple seconds, Sia would wake up to a wet bed.
Since the bed-wetting incidents stopped a long time ago, Sia has gone on to be a successful musician.
Her new album called Some People Have Real Problems was released this January, which she followed with performances on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
Bed-wetting isn't a real problem, though. Real problems are "like not having any rice or having a kid with cancer," Sia said.
Her North American tour began Friday and Milwaukee is her 10th stop.
To regulate the band's drinking on the tour, each member must muscle 10 push-ups before taking a tequila shot.
"You should just check out my pectorals," Sia said.
She didn't always live life so carefree.
Sia fought with faking her personal affections toward people. According to Sia, she used to be a people pleaser and always played the clown. About five years ago, she had a nervous breakdown, she said.
"I got exhausted from tap dancing," said Sia, who now feels a "genuine sense of peace."
Her life changing moment occurred when the HBO program "Six Feet Under" aired its series finale in 2005.
She was about to give up her solo career, which had taken a hit from poor promotion, and planned to write pop songs for singers and build up a good reputation for herself.
But then "Six Feet Under" decided to use her song "Breathe Me" in the final grappling six minutes of the program.
Sia was surprised and unprepared for the reaction she received after the finale aired. Her album hadn't even been released in the U.S. yet.
"It resuscitated my career," Sia said.
Sia received more help recently when celebrity blog titan Perez Hilton posted Sia's "Buttons" music video on his Web site, which received hundreds of thousands of plays in three days.
"That totally changed my life, which is terrifying," Sia said. "I hope he'll continue to like me."
