Madeline Wake will resign as provost of the university effective Dec. 31, according to a University News Briefs e-mail.
Wake has been provost since 2002. She plans to return to a faculty position, with University President the Rev. Robert A. Wild appointing her as a university professor, the news brief said.
According to Brigid O'Brien Miller, director of university communication, the university still has to make a decision about an interim and replacement provost. She said the university would make another announcement at that point.
Miller said the nature of Wake's faculty position also has yet to be finalized.
With Wake and Wild both traveling this week, Miller said more information would be available when they return.
