According to Milwaukee Police Department reports, the suspect has been identified as Daniel Ledden, a junior in the College of Arts & Sciences.
DPS was called to Campus Town West at 9:32 p.m. after a fire alarm was activated. The building was evacuated and the Milwaukee Fire Department was contacted. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Ledden activated the alarm for no apparent reason.
DPS officers began to question Ledden when he attempted to flee into the street. A DPS officer pursued him, according to reports.
Ledden stopped suddenly, turned around and struck a DPS officer in the face with a closed fist, according to Associate Director of DPS Capt. Russ Shaw.
"We are not going to tolerate our officers being injured by anyone," Shaw said.
MPD was contacted and Ledden was taken into custody for battery, resisting and obstructing an officer and activating a false fire alarm.
The injured DPS officer was transported to Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, 2900 W. Oklahoma Ave., for treatment of a possible neck injury.
