U.S. House of Representatives member Gwen Moore will be honored tonight as a part of Marquette Alumni National Awards.
Moore, a College of Arts & Sciences '78 alumna, will be awarded the Helen Way Klingler College of Arts & Sciences Distinguished Alumna of the Year award.
"Rep. Moore is being honored for her distinguished service representing the people of southeastern Wisconsin, first in the Wisconsin State Assembly and the Wisconsin State Senate and, since 2005, as the Congresswoman from the Fourth District," said Senior Director of University Communication Mary Pat Pfeil in an e-mail.
Moore is Wisconsin's first black member of Congress and was also the first black woman elected to the Wisconsin State Senate, Pfeil said.
