Today's forecast: sunny and 51 degrees.
Tickets sold for Jack's Mannequin concert: almost 600.
So it's possible that the rock band from Orange County, Calif., won't absolutely hate Milwaukee.
After a few weeks of negotiating an equally agreeable contract, Jack's Mannequin will play the Varsity Theatre today at 7:30 p.m., according to Marquette Student Government Program Vice President Steve Ryan.
"We think Jack's Mannequin will appeal to a large variety of students," Ryan said. "Students expressed interest in the band, and they were one of the more popular band's distinguished in a survey (that MUSG handed out in the Raynor Library and Alumni Memorial Union)."
Jack's Mannequin is headed by lead singer Andrew McMahon, along with band mates Bobby Anderson, Jay McMillan and Jonathan Sullivan. McMahon's music career began as the lead vocalist and pianist for the well-known band Something Corporate.
After recording the song "Locked Doors" and realizing that it was too different from Something Corporate's material, McMahon began his solo project under the name Jack's Mannequin.
Three months before the release of Jack's Mannequin's debut album, Everything in Transit, McMahon came down with what seemed like a persistent case of laryngitis. It turned out to be a whole lot worse.
In 2005 McMahon was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
After McMahon's full recovery, Jack's Mannequin's debut album has had notable success.
"We got a lot of great feedback on Jack's Mannequin," said Ryan. "Marquette is excited to have them on campus and excited to see them perform."
