Oh the wonders of the super-comfy sweatpants, a popular clothing item for many Marquette students. However, this year they are being paired with none other than the trendy Ugg boots! Walk down Wisconsin Avenue and you see practically every other student sporting Uggs in an assortment of colors.
Furthermore, sweatpants are tucked into them and create the ultimate look of the season.
If we really want to make a statement, top off the entire look with a big, hooded sweatshirt.
Whatever the case, we know that as we walk down the streets of Marquette's campus, we tell the world, "I'm in college and enjoy sleeping in!" or, "I'm an individual. I don't care how I look!"
Now, if you really think about it, you must care a tiny bit about how you look in our little world at Marquette if you care enough to tuck those darling sweatpants into über-comfy Uggs.
Ways to look trendy at Marquette:
DON'T match sweatpants with Uggs. The more you don't match them, the trendier you'll be.
DO wear flip-flops in January, to tell the world you don't care if your toes freeze and because flip-flops, like sweatpants, are not time-consuming to put on.
Better yet, don't even change into sweatpants, but keep the colorful pajama pants on because those are always fun!
And while you're at it, throw a $324 Coach purse over your shoulder and you're ready to go.
Don't get me wrong. Uggs are practical and comfy. They are perfect foot apparel for chilly Wisconsin days. They look nice with jeans or a skirt, whichever you prefer. Wait! I see a problem.
Jeans take longer to tuck into boots than sweatpants.
You didn't wake up wearing jeans and therefore cannot wear them, since you don't get dressed anyway.
This might be too dressed-up for Marquette standards, especially with a skirt.
After these considerations you might as well keep those comfy old sweatpants on. After all, you must think we're college students and we're too busy. We study, go to class, eat and sleep.
On weekends, I see attempts to get "dressed up" for those who go out.
As strange as it may seem, you can tell a lot about someone from first glance. Our general appearance speaks a hundred words. We are "sized up" not only by our peers who sport the same Ugg-and-sweatpants combo, but also by future employers, Marquette staff and the general public.
I'm not saying we need to walk around like runway models. Just simple, comfortable and not suggesting your future occupation as a bag lady.
