Two cargo planes collide, burn at Milwaukee airport
MILWAUKEE (AP) – Two cargo planes collided and burned on a taxiway at Mitchell International Airport Wednesday night, but no serious injuries were reported.
Airport director Barry Bateman said both pilots got out after the accident and one had a minor hand injury.
The accident happened around 8 p.m. and involved planes from the same company, Freight Runners Express Inc. of Milwaukee, he said.
"I'm told that one (plane) had just landed and was taxiing into the cargo area," Bateman said.
Firefighting crews put out the fires.
"The airport closed immediately, which is normal procedure," he said.
It reopened around 8:30 p.m.
Bateman said there was no readily apparent cause.
Teen sentenced to two years for providing lethal heroin dose
PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (AP) – A teenager who helped provide what proved to be a fatal heroin dose for another teen was sentenced Wednesday to two years in state prison and eight years extended supervision.
Caitlin Schuette, 18, of Cedarburg pleaded no contest in May to a felony charge of first-degree reckless homicide by delivery of drugs.
Ozaukee County District Attorney Sandy Williams recommended the more lenient sentence of one year in county jail and eight years probation.
But Judge Joseph D. McCormack said a tougher sentence would send a message to the community.
Schuette and Benjamin R. Stibbe, 23, of Grafton helped obtain heroin Nov. 29, 2005 from a Milwaukee dealer, according to a criminal complaint. Angela Raettig, 17, of Cedarburg injected some of the heroin and was found dead in her bed the next morning of an overdose, the complaint said.
