Three teams emerged from an extraordinary Sunday of record-setting performances, blowout games and humbled ambitions.
Coming off a win at Marquette Friday, a confident Charlotte carried a 15-2 record to a No. 21 DePaul squad which had lost at Marquette a week earlier.
In its previous four victories, Charlotte's opponents committed an average of 25 turnovers per game, but the up-tempo style played into the hands of DePaul Sunday.
Forward Khara Smith paced the Blue Demons to a 103-64 win with 31 points and 14 rebounds, and Jenna Rubino added 24 points from the DePaul perimeter…
Bulls win
South Florida had every reason to believe it could compete with Houston Sunday. The Bulls had beaten a good Louisville team Jan. 7 and had staged a furious rally Friday to pull within five points of TCU with less than three minutes left in the game before losing by 12.
Houston, like DePaul, exposed its opponent's weaknesses en route to a 65-45 victory without breaking much of a sweat. Forward Sancho Lyttle recorded her eighth consecutive double-double in dominant fashion: 33 points and a career-high 20 rebounds…
Pulsating comeback victory (wink wink)
Texas Christian forward Sandora Irvin broke an NCAA single-game record with 16 blocks in a 75-34 victory over Alabama-Birmingham. When she was not blocking shots, she was shooting the ball through a hoop (20 points), grabbing rebounds (18), assisting her teammates (6), and stealing from her opponent (5).
TCU closed the first half on a 44-1 run to lead 46-8 at halftime, which implies that TCU overcame a 7-2 deficit…
Jazz combo
Louisville shot 64 percent from the field at Cincinnati Sunday and led by as many as 17 points. The team needed an off-balance jumper from guard Jazz Covington with one second left, however, to edge the Bearcats, 72-71… Saint Louis won its second game of the season Sunday and snapped a 13-game losing streak at home against Tulane.
