Personally, I view the obsession of certain alumni with MU's "sports name" as an embarrassment, not only to the university but to Baby Boomers everywhere. After all, do we "boomers" really need to keep reminding everyone that we insist on having things our way?
Ironically, it is another embarrassment that may provide a solution to this momentous predicament. I'm referring to that recent, failed epic film "Troy," starring Brad Pitt as Achilles, the penultimate warrior of the ancient world. I ask you to recall that unforgettable scene from the promo, of course, I know you didn't see the movie where we see Brad-Achilles leading his troops into (yet another) battle.
His golden sword is drawn and raised to the heavens as Apollo (the sun-god) beams down and reflects his glory upon Brad's ancient-Greek helmet and summer-weight, golden armor. A blazing archetypal warrior and what a perfect symbol and mascot, I thought, for are you ready? the Marquette "Golden Warriors." Think about it.
