MUSG plans to use its larger budget to fund more programming and allocate larger fiscal amounts to student organizations, said MUSG Vice President Emily Rostkowski, a College of Arts & Sciences senior. Last year alone, about 27 new student organizations became recognized on campus, rounding out the total number of organizations to about 200, Rostkowski said.
The student activity fee, charged to all undergraduates, will increase to $52 next school year. Marquette Student Government suggested the $6 increase last semester at one of their senate sessions.
The MUSG budget, which consists of the student activity fee, was stretched to keep up with the demand for money from student organizations. The senate and executive board proposed an increase in the student activity fee to make enough money available to student organizations and the programming board.
