Delivery system broadens food options

A Chipotle burrito delivered to your apartment? McDonald's delivered to your dorm? That's the concept behind Chris Dewulf and Alex Biggam's new business, Campus Carry Out.

"I was a student once and I remember wanting more selection than the few restaurants around campus … I wondered why more places didn't deliver," Biggam said.

Biggam, a 2001 Marquette graduate, and Dewulf, a 2002 Illinois State University graduate, came up with the idea of their private food delivery service after hearing about a man who lived behind an Outback Steakhouse and helped the restaurant with its neighborhood deliveries.

"We thought it'd be a great idea to deliver food from a bunch of restaurants to a concentrated group of people, i.e. Marquette University," Biggam said.

Campus Carry Out's first day of business was Super Bowl Sunday. Since then, Dewulf and Biggam have been trying to get the word out about their business through the distribution of flyers in dorms and individually e-mailing students.

"We have been swamped the past week," Dewulf said. "Student feedback has been pretty positive."

Campus Carry Out delivers during weekdays from 5:15 to 10 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Students can call and give their food order to Dewulf or Biggam, who will then order the food, pick it up and deliver it to the students for a $2 delivery fee. Multiple orders can be taken and delivered to the same place for only one delivery charge.

"Our thought was roommates could order together and still only pay one delivery fee," Dewulf said.

Campus Carry Out will deliver food from any fast food chain and most restaurants that have carry out service, including Chipotle, Chili's, Culvers and Noodles and Company.

"This is a win-win situation for both the restaurants and the students," Biggam said, "Restaurants receive sales they normally wouldn't get and students have a convenient way to have more food selection."

Dewulf said the company has verbal agreements with most restaurants about the delivery service, but plans on setting up more formal meetings with restaurant managers as business increases. He said they also plan on expanding to an all-day delivery service if things go well.

Campus Carry Out is licensed through the State of Wisconsin as a private registered and safe food delivery service.

A credit analyst and a CPA as well as best friends since sixth grade, Dewulf and Biggam had always wanted to own a business together.

"Each of our fathers started their own businesses, so that really motivated us," Biggam said.

John Shaw, a College of Business Administration senior, said he thinks Campus Carry Out is a good idea.

"The whole concept and delivery fee is pretty reasonable. I think it's a great idea," Shaw said.

Students can call (414) 687-0618 to place an order. Pre-orders are accepted for dinner and can be called in or e-mailed to [email protected].
