About 200 students walked out of class in protest. According to the Daily Cardinal, the protest turned into a march around campus and included a sit-in outside university Chancellor John Wiley's office.
UW-Madison College Republicans also showed up and formed a counter-protest.
"(Our demonstration) is in response to their walkout, but we just want to make it kind of a separate, really positive thing to show that that's not the voice of all of the students," Nicole Marklein, senior and College Republican chair, told the Daily Cardinal. "We appreciate our troops. We appreciate the ROTC program."
