Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and three dozen civic and political officials will outline the five-year strategy Monday.
The council will oversee long-term efforts to brand the region, construct a Web site to market the area and build the institutions that will work to lure new businesses. So far, the council's plans remain largely conceptual.
The seven-county economy has nearly 2 million people, eight multinational Fortune 500 companies and annual exports of $5 billion.
The effort has raised more than $8 million of the $12 million budget so far, said Timothy Sheehy, president of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce.
