It was a colorful night at Valley Fields on Saturday; the referee handed out yellows and reds while the players handed out blacks and blues.
The major collision of the evening came in the 36th minute when Hoyas midfielder Ben Jefferson-Dow slid cleats-up into freshman midfielder Mike Klemm.
Jefferson-Dow was issued a red card and was ejected from the match, while Klemm remained on the ground for several minutes before Marquette athletic training staffers helped him off the field.
"I think (Klemm) is going to be out a week or two. He sprained his (right) knee," said head athletic trainer David Leigh. "We'll know more judging by how it swells up, but I would say he's probably done for the season."
Klemm joins the growing list of currently injured players on Marquette's roster.
Freshman forward Duncan Silvert-Noftle hurt his left ankle Oct. 12 in a match versus Wisconsin-Green Bay and played very briefly against Georgetown.
Still suffering with strained ligaments in his left foot, junior forward Matt Blouin has not played in a game since Oct. 5 versus Notre Dame.
"Duncan is coming back from a strained ankle, but I would think he would be able to play in their next game," Leigh said. "Right now we're evaluating Blouin's progress, and we hope to get him back for the last few games of the season."
Other Golden Eagles battling injury problems are junior midfielder Pat Knoelke and freshman midfielder Dan Addis.
Knoelke has been playing through a sore hamstring, while Addis has been dealing with a strained hip. Both are day-to-day injuries, according to Leigh.
"It's unfortunate that we have so many injured strikers," said head coach Steve Adlard. "It's forcing us to make adjustments."
And having to make adjustments to an offense already struggling to score goals is not a favorable situation, making Saturday's physical play and subsequent injuries all the more damaging.
Throughout the night, Georgetown amassed two yellow cards and one red card, while the Golden Eagles earned a yellow card of their own.
"There was a lot of talk going on out on the field tonight," said junior midfielder Bryan Dahlquist. "I disagreed with some of the calls the ref made, but he was just trying to keep everything under control, so I think he did a pretty good job out there."
