The Career Services Center packed its boxes and moved from the basement of Marquette Hall to the first floor of Holthusen Hall this summer.
"It's a positive place where things are happening," said Laura Kestner, director of the Career Services Center, which officially moved Aug. 16.
She said the new location is in a more visible space with a better layout for those using it.
Holthusen Hall is located next to Varsity Theater on West Wisconsin Avenue, across from the John P. Raynor, S.J. Library. It is centrally located for students, faculty and staff to easily find on campus.
The center now has a reception area to seat 20 students, nine interview rooms and a seminar room, according to Kestner. Another new feature is the Kimberly-Clark Career Library, which offers many resources for any career-related issue.
The center's new location is also more convenient for employers because the building is closer to the new parking structure on Wells Street.
"We don't do a cookie cutter thing," Kestner said of the center's mission to recognize that students are unique individuals with different needs. She said the Career Services Center brings industry trends to campus and helps students identify and obtain internship experiences.
The CSC can be used for career counseling, critiquing résumés, finding job postings both in the greater Milwaukee area and nationally, receiving one-on-one service, and on-campus interviews.
"We have mock interviews where we give advice about clothing and what questions are typically asked by potential employers," said Marc Silva, a career intern at CSC. Sample résumés can be provided as well.
For real job interviews, the center even installed full-length mirrors in the restrooms.
On staff at the CSC are four full-time career counselors, available by appointment Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They can be contacted by calling the CSC at 288-7423.
