I don't think it takes a college degree to figure out some key questions raised in Patti Murphy's Oct. 12 column "'Shock value' of abortion display said perturbing" regarding the small white crosses symbolizing lost lives of infants due to abortion.
I am sensitive to the fact females who may have undergone an abortion may have been "bombarded" by the display on Lalumiere's field. However, I think Murphy missed the message the display was trying to convey. Maybe the act wasn't out of condemnation, but rather out of prevention, thought and a time to reflect. With quotes from Mother Theresa on wooden signs, it seems unlikely her words would shout condemnation or anger but rather peace and love.
Regarding Murphy's comment about men being the majority of pro-life activists, I recall a few weeks ago people of all different ages, races and sex held up anti-abortion signs all along West Wisconsin Avenue. Abortion is a heated topic because there are different elements involved, and many times very strong feelings.
However, if Murphy doesn't like getting a pro-life stance on things, she should take the bus off a Catholic campus. We attend a Jesuit university that is open to new ideas, different opinions and many points of view. But if you think University President the Rev. Robert A. Wild plans on holding a pro-choice parade or putting a VOX program at the top of the list, I think it's time to save a few grand and go to a public school.
