Sometimes in golf the momentum can get lost unless one carries the torch steadily. The disappointing, rain-delayed Shell Houston Open was enough to turn me away from watching. As the Monday finish continues, I can't help but be disappointed about the weekend in sports.
The stage show was evident from the NFL draft to Talladega. There was also much excitement at Wrigley Field as well as Yankee Stadium.
The always steady and consistent Vijay Singh captured the title at Houston with ease. Singh came back after posting a lackluster opening round of 74 that placed him in a tie for 94th. There is a reason that Singh is the hardest working golfer in the world.
I simply cannot believe that the dysfunctional Lakers family is singing the same tune. I believe, however, that the Lakers are starting to forget about Superman and that can hurt them in their quest. It can also hurt me in my wagering fiasco. Please Kobe, pass the ball to the big guy.
I can rant and rave in regards to the Cubbies but I won't because it's still early. For all those Bostonians, a word of advice, "It is still April." How nice is it to see the Yankees' hitters fan like a fat kid attempting to hit a piñata?
The NFL draft made me realize that sports are lacking more heroes like Pat Tillman. I could not accept Eli Manning's excuse for not wanting to be drafted by the Chargers. It must suck to be the first pick in the draft how ungrateful we have become. Tillman is a champion and I hope others can look into his life and gain an ounce of worth from it. Thanks Pat, for making people more aware of life's demise. Thanks for believing that there is more to life than material goods.
Jeff Gordon managed to win once more on the NASCAR circuit, I mean circus. What kind of a salute did Gordon receive following his win? All he got was cans of beer and a few kind words. The NASCAR circus is a better production than your favorite sitcom.
The steroids issue will not go away and neither will taxes. Barry Bonds will be questioned after every homer and every hit. It is unfortunate in this day and age that we all cannot get along.
I know Frank Thomas is out there somewhere bickering like me. Thomas, however, is crying because he believes he is underpaid. Sorry Frank, your $6 million salary is just difficult to live on. Is it that hard to be a millionaire these days?
