Murphy, a sophomore, started off the slow end but finished strong down the stretch. Murphy improved his score in each of the three rounds and fired an impressive final round score of 71.
Freshman Michael Bielawski finished in 60th place with a 224, while junior Nathan Colson struggled to a tie for 67th place with a total of 225.
"I was pleased with the way I played the first two rounds," Bielawski said. "The last day I wanted to shoot a low number but I had three bad holes that were disappointing."
Steve Sass, a sophomore, finished with a 228.
As a team the Golden Eagles are having a hard time getting off to a fine start. The team did post a healthy second round score as a team of 289.
"The second and the third round were pretty good showing," Bielawki said. "We took ourselves out of the tourney after the first round but we climbed our way back but overall it was not a good performance. It has been our stumbling block this year and that's getting off to a good start."
The team will return to play April 9-10 at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W. Va.
