Those who couldn't wait for the fall got to see some early action on the gridiron when the Marquette club football team held its first intra-squad spring game on Saturday.
"We looked sharp in spring practice," said club president Nick Cerveny. "It was amazing how well the new guys mixed in with the returning guys."
The exhibition was set up much like the intra-squad game the Green Bay Packers play every year, according to Cerveny. The first team offense played against the second string defense and vice-versa.
"There is optimism. High optimism," Cerveny said. "Everyone has set their goals high. We lost a couple close games last year and we're looking to improve that."
Practice, which had been going on throughout the spring, culminated in the game held at Valley Fields. The team hopes their strong spring carries over when their season begins next fall, according to Cerveny.
