My parents are obsessed with family weekend. For the past two years, they’ve booked a hotel months before, secured tickets for the Helfaer Theatre performance and arranged a dinner outing with my friends’ parents. And I have reason to believe they’ll continue to do this until I graduate next year. But I’m not going to complain about a whole weekend of free food. And okay, I guess I miss my family. You know you do too.
One of my friends has actually become an obligatory Butler family photographer for when my mom insists on taking various photos around campus — in front of Joan of Arc, by the McCormick and Schroeder Hall signs and now, I’m sure, she’ll want one in front of my apartment building and some random statue on campus (toilet paper Jesus, perhaps?). One of this year’s photos is bound to be featured on our Christmas card — again.
So if your parents voice an interest in coming, don’t discourage them. They’re probably just as excited as mine still are. If you’re a freshman, they’re probably ecstatic. Even though pre-registration is over, they can still stop by some events. Check out the Family Weekend information on the Marquette website.
Oh, and remember to force your fathers to wear the “I’m a Marquette Dad” button. For some reason, dads seem to refuse. Definitely makes it more fun.
