It’s that time of year again: the beginning of the school year is just around the corner. Typically, during the first week back on the grind, people actually try to make themselves presentable and seem like they have at least an inkling of a fashion sense. After that first week, though, everyone reverts back to the standard leggings, Sperry’s, and baggy sweater look. I too have been guilty of slipping into a more lazy outfit after the first week buzz fades out, but this year I’m going to consciously try to look like I haven’t just rolled out of bed and walked to class in what I fell asleep in. Here are some back to school outfits for all of us who are trying to be more fashion conscious this school year.
This is a great look for the first day of school or even just for a day where you feel like complete crap. I try to dress up when I’m not really feeling all too great because it does wonders to make my mood better when I have a cute outfit on. I love skater skirts because it sits right on the waist and really shows off the very few curves that I do have. I’ve paired this outfit with some comfy flats and accessorized it with a minimalistic necklace, statement rings, and Clubmaster sunglasses. I don’t normally wear bracelets or bangles when I go to class just because it’s difficult to write or type with them on, and they tend to be a distraction for me. To give it a more tough look (and for those randomly chilly days) try and pair this outfit with a fitted leather jacket. For hair I would do a fishtail braid and rosy makeup palette and a pink lip.
Remember what I said about how after the first week of school we tend to revert back to lazy, effortless outfits? Well this is an outfit that is comfy and easy to slip into without actually having to put too much effort into picking it out. I personally despise the whole “leggings as pants” look and try to avoid it at all costs because to me, they look kind of shoddy and tend to accentuate the wrong curves. With this outfit, I’ve paired some simple colored skinny jeans with a graphic sweater. To complete this lazy day look, I would keep my hair down in soft waves and use a neutral makeup palette with a nude or soft pink lipstick.
Style Tip: Sweaters are a fantastic staple to have in anyone’s wardrobe, but it’s easy to pick out a sweater that can make an outfit look frumpy. The key to purchasing the right sweater is to get one that has a fun print or a bold color on it. Try to avoid sweaters that are too baggy so it doesn’t look like you’re drowning in them. When it gets colder, you can easily throw on a basic tee underneath or layer it with a collared button up like I have in the style set above.
