Want to stand out in a crowd? Then kaleidoscope prints are fashion’s craziest, yet coolest trend for you to try! Immortalized originally by Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2009 collection (Ok, ok so maybe I’m a little behind on the times here), these fascinating prints, paired with martian-esque hair and staggering heels, hypnotized audiences around the globe:
Look familiar? You may have noticed it in Gaga’s “Bad Romance” video! McQueen actually used her song to debut his runway look. You can view the whole finale here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUvFTc2mlNY
Here are some of my favorite looks from the show:
So, as mesmerized as you are by these beauties, I’m sure you have two things in mind currently as you are wiping the drool off your face: 1) how in the WORLD do I possibly wear these things?! and 2) how am I supposed to afford Alexander McQueen???!? Well, my dears, you are in luck, because kaleidoscope prints are super versatile and can actually fit in quite well with your current summer wardrobe! Because kaleidoscope is so geometric, I would stick to very structured shapes when opting for a dress. Shifts and fitted bodices are most flattering, as I find the mirroring of the print in contrast to feminine curves is what makes this fashion statement so breathtaking. Because this style is so trendy, most of the dresses I shopped were at a higher price range, but stores such as TopShop carry similar prints for less. BUT (as for that second question of yours) I also found quite the bargain! (and since I’m so excited about it, I’ll show it first):
Dorothy Perkins Blue Printed Mirror Dress, now $12!
That’s right, people. TWELVE BUCKS. BUY TWENTY WHILE YOU CAN.
As for those chicas who are willing to shell out a little more, here are some other just as beautiful picks:
Roberto Cavalli Printed Crepe-Jersey Dress, $700 http://bit.ly/1dZe1lI
Bergdorf Goodman, Alexander McQueen Cap-Sleeve Sheath Dress, $365
But why stick to sheaths? There are so many possibilities for kaleidoscope prints! Like,
Skirts
Crop Tops
(Paired with a matching skirt makes it even chicer)
This look was found at Illustrated People (http://illustratedpeople.com/), a really cool, European-based store with a sweet street-style vibe, and the prices aren’t too bad either!
And who’s not all for printed leggings?
Just pair with a sweater and edgy heels for a put-together look. Perfect for fall.
Well, hopefully you lovelies are inspired to travel outside your comfort zone and go on some sweet fashion adventures! Stay tuned for fall’s take on kaleidoscope print: modern baroque! See you then! xx
