Women's tennis would seem to be slated for a step backward after a 15-8 record last season, the program's best since 2011. That's what's supposed to happen when two of the best players from last year leave, after all. Head coach Jody Bronson, now in her 33rd year at Marquette, isn't concerned.

The Marquette men's soccer team is now 0-5-1 after three straight defeats. Suspect defensive efforts have been the culprit in almost all of those losses, especially when it comes to man-marking.

Alex Gill, a freshman in the College of Engineering, joined the track and cross country teams at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Lenexa, Kansas, and never stopped running. First, he ran his way to five combined state titles in track and field and cross country. He then ran as part of the fastest distance medley relay in Kansas history. Finally, his running carried him all the way to Milwaukee.
