At that moment, Amplo was faced with a choice. The team’s BIG EAST opener against Georgetown was the following day, and conventional coaching wisdom is to keep team morale high, which would mean letting the transgression slide. Amplo opted for the opposite approach, tearing into his team for their lack of discipline. “I took it as an opportunity to really hold them accountable and point it out,” Amplo said.

Every journalist remembers his or her first big screw-up. Mine came on a humid September afternoon my freshman year. I had 10 minutes to interview libero Lauren Houg for a story on tight deadline before she had to run off to class. She emerged from practice, quickly shook my hand, and then watched me fail to put a camera on a tripod for five minutes before walking away. If the sidewalk outside the Al McGuire Center could’ve opened up and swallowed me right then and there, it would have been sweet relief.

I don't know what my next chapter will be or where this industry will take me, but I do know one thing: the lessons that I got from the Marquette Wire will be with me wherever I go, and as a result, I am always willing to push myself to tell good stories.

Junior attackman John Wagner's goal to make it a one-goal game with 5:16 remaining in Thursday's BIG EAST semifinal game against Denver put the men's lacrosse team on the verge of a comeback for the ages. This was territory that Marquette had been in all season long as the Golden Eagles had won five games decided by one goal. It seemed it was meant to be.

Marquette golf finishes second in Big East Tournament, Eichhorn claims individual title

The Marquette golf team (290-306-291--887) finished in second place in the 2018 BIG EAST Tournament, placing three strokes behind the Georgetown Hoyas (289-304-291--884). Freshman Hunter Eichhorn claimed the individual title, tallying a final score of 2-under-par and becoming the second straight Marquette freshman to win the individual BIG EAST Men's Championship after Matt Bachmann did last year.
