Student government appoints new Outreach VP

Sara Manjee, a sophomore in the College of Business Administration, will be the new OVP. Her transitioning was effective immediately after her appointment. This semester, she has served as the commuter senator, and during her freshmen year, she was a member of the Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice and Community Engagement Committee.

University apartments experience tenant shortage

Kelsey Stockton, assistant director of university apartments and off-campus student services, said the timing of Marquette's purchase of The Marq didn't coincide well with advertising for university apartments. The purchase was made late in the fall semester, around the same time students signed up for apartment spaces.
In fall of last year, MUPD was in the process of hiring a mental health professional.

University attempts to ease recycling suspicions among students

Brent Ribble, campus sustainability coordinator, said that if a student sees a staff member combine trash and recyclables together, the reason is probably that someone contaminated the recyclables with food, liquids, grease or dirt.

Voter turnout increases for 2018 MUSG presidential election

1,955 Marquette students voted, which is 25.88 percent of the eligible student population. This year’s voter turnout was the highest in four years. All of the student body at Marquette can vote, as they pay a student activity fee that is covered by their tuition.
The OBrien Fellowship allows selected journalists to investigate a project of their choice alongside student interns.

The journalists won for their investigative piece called “Out of Balance,” which exposed the USA Gymnastic team’s practice of not reporting sexual abuse allegations as they occurred.
The hearing for the evictions case has been adjourned two times. The third hearing is scheduled for June 5.

Subway eviction hearing postponed

The Milwaukee County Small Claims Court saw its second hearing on of an eviction case regarding the Subway located at 1414 W. Wells St. on Friday, according to the court record.

Wasby mostly discussed the travel ban President Donald Trump instituted against several Middle Eastern countries last year, Trump's interactions with his lawyers and his many attempts to reverse legislation passed during former President Barack Obama’s administration. Wasby said these cases reveal the nature of the president’s relationship with the law.

Campus organizations support Denim Day efforts

While this year’s Denim Day is April 25, the movement started in 1998 in response to an Italian Supreme Court ruling. After a teenage girl was raped by her driving instructor, it was ruled that because the victim was wearing jeans, she must’ve helped her rapist remove her pants, therefore consenting to sex. After the court ruling, women in the Italian Parliament came to work the next day wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
