Sleepless in Raynor

How to pull an all-nighter without study drugs

You walk into the library and it’s full to capacity. That can only mean one thing: finals week. You grab a coffee and park yourself at a table to cram for the whole night. While we don’t encourage all-nighters, if you have to do it, do it the healthy way.

1.Coffee may seem like your best friend during finals week, but make sure to keep it at a minimum. Stay hydrated with water to prevent the post-caffeine crash. A few glasses of ice-cold water will keep you refreshed and alert enough to study all night.
2. Get up and move. Walk up and down a staircase, stretch or bust out a dance move in the library. No one will judge. Everyone gets a little crazy during finals. Any form of physical activity keeps your blood pumping and will keep you awake a little longer.
3. A few healthy snacks, like fruits and vegetables, will also keep you feeling good throughout the night. Nutritious snacks that keep your blood sugar levels stable will help you maintain lasting energy.
4.Rotate what you are studying each hour so you avoid mentally wearing yourself out by spending too much time on one topic. The rotation will make it easier to get through your entire work load.
5.Have a good playlist on your iPod to last you through the night. Try a little heavy metal. The harsh rhythm of this music will not lull you to sleep, like other forms of music could.

After finals, treat yourself to what you missed all night — sleep!
