Marquette women’s soccer’s path to a BIG EAST Tournament bid became significantly more difficult Sunday afternoon, losing its third conference match of 2018 in a 1-0 decision at Providence.

The deciding goal came on a Katie Day header in the 72nd minute off a corner kick. The strike from six yards out was Day’s first goal of 2018.

The Golden Eagles appeared to tie the match in the 87th minute when freshman Katrina Wetherell found the net off a corner kick, but a Marquette foul negated the goal.

The Friars finished with a slight 11-10 shot advantage. The Golden Eagles did not have a shot on goal until the second half, and no Marquette player had more than one shot on goal.

Marquette junior goalkeeper Maddy Henry had four saves, pushing her season total to 77 saves.

The Golden Eagles have not scored in the last 192 minutes of action and have been shut out eight times this season.

Marquette now sits in eighth place in the conference and will look for its second conference win Oct. 14 at Xavier.
