Band– Clevinger
Album Acres (EP)
Ten-Second Bio– Clevinger is a Northern Kentucky indie rock outfit, with vocalist Danny Turner serving as the front man. According to the band’s website, they are a self-described experimental, blues, punk, indie, pop group and put out Acres, their first album, in September of last year.
What Can My Ears Expect? – At their best, Clevinger brings a group harmony that is highlighted by a melodic drum and bass backing. “Phantom Tollbooth”, the opening track, comes out with a catchy beat, and what I would imagine the Tootsie Pop Owl’s vocal styling’s sound like, and it works because it flows. However, on tracks such as “Gold Rush (Woo)” the band seems unable to find a consistent sound and jumps between shouting out lyrics and then nothing at all. Clevinger definitely shows potential on their first EP, but continuity will be the key to their future success.
What Will Their Words Say?-Acres takes a good amount of time reflecting on religion and worldviews, singing on atheism on one track and realism in another.
Target Audience-The band lists Bright Eyes, Brand New, and La Dispute as their influences.
Key Tracks from Acres-“The Phantom Tollbooth” (Track 1), “Days are Coming” (Track 3)

Grade: Solid 7 (out of 10)
