Sobelman’s to replace recently closed Angelo’s

Sobelman’s Pub and Grill announced Thursday that it will replace Angelo’s Pizza Restaurant and Bar at 1601 W. Wells St. on Marquette’s campus.

The rumor first began when Marquette Career Services Center tweeted through their @MUCSCJobs account that the restaurant, which is best known for its hamburgers and appearance on the Travel Channel’s “Food Wars,” would be taking over Angelo’s. The tweet also said Marquette alums were being sought to manage the property.

Two hours later, a simultaneous Twitter and Facebook update hinting at the possibility of opening a Marquette location appeared on Sobelman’s website.

“Should I sign this letter of intent to take over the old Angelo’s spot, @Marquette?” the update asked.

Melanie Sobelman, co-owner of the restaurant with husband Dave, could not provide specific details Thursday regarding the new location, but said more information will come over the next couple of days.

She did however, verify the rumors were true, and that Sobelman’s will take place of Angelo’s eventually.

“We’re very excited and happy to be closer to the Marquette students,” she said. “It’s truly a win-win for everyone involved.”
