Academic scheduler MyEdu lets students avoid early classes

Let’s face it: Few students want to roll out of bed on a Monday morning for 8 a.m. classes. But what if you could choose to start class at noon? The new academic planning system MyEdu can help.

MyEdu is an academic platform that helps students plan and manage their academic careers. Marquette provides MyEdu with information on official academic information, including professor grading trends, degree information, course schedules and course workload. MyEdu then puts the information into its database for students’ use, said Kathryn Walker, MyEdu media coordinator.

Students can use MyEdu’s automatic schedule planner and avoid 8 a.m. classes by telling the system to only choose classes that begin after a certain time.

“If you don’t want to schedule a class before noon, then MyEdu won’t plan anything before then,” Walker said.

“I would definitely use it because it helps you find the best classes and professors for you,” said Grace Miller, a freshman in the College of Communication. “And I don’t like waking up early, so not having 8 a.m. classes would be really nice.”

The system also provides students with a degree planner to help them manage classes for on-time degree completion. A workload calculator helps students balance more difficult classes over multiple semesters.

Users can even choose to take classes with their Facebook friends by uploading their list of friends to the MyEdu website.

However, not all students were sold on the idea.

“I thought about using it, but it seemed kind of sketch,” said Stephanie Graham, a freshman in the College of Communication. “I wasn’t sure if it was really affiliated with Marquette.”
