A white passenger bus was engulfed in flames yesterday afternoon across from the south side of Lalumiere Language Hall on Interstate Highway 94.

The Milwaukee Police Department received a call that smoke was billowing from the bus, an MPD officer on the scene said. When MPD reached the bus, it had been completely engulfed in fire. The cause of the blaze was unknown as of press time.

There were no passengers on the bus when the call was made, an MPD officer said. Two trucks from the Milwaukee Fire Department and Milwaukee County Sheriff officers responded, along with MPD. The fire was put out using hydrants on West Clybourn Street.

Traffic continued in the far left lane of the nearby entrance ramp after the fire had been put out, and police officers blocked off the two right lanes, where the charred bus was skewed off to the side of the road. The entire interior and exterior of the bus showed signs of damage as a result of the fire.

The side of the bus was labeled as belonging to StaffWorks, a staffing solution company with three Milwaukee locations.
