Kevin Fennell, a 21-year-old ball boy who works for the Oakland Athletics, is a genius.
On Aug. 19, instead of giving the foul balls he gobbled up to some snot-nosed kids in the front row, he picked out a good-looking lady around his age and gave them to her. Brilliant. How Major League ball boys hadn’t thought of this before is a mystery to me. Keep an eye out for copycats coming to a ballpark near you.
Through the jeering of the Oakland crowd, Fennell handed four balls to Jacki Lynch over the course of the night, and with an assist from his wingmen in the A’s bullpen, Fennell left the stadium that night with Lynch’s phone number and wound up with a date.
Luckily for our hero, Raiders fans don’t go to these baseball games. Stuff like withholding souvenirs and acting chivalrously usually doesn’t go over well with people wearing spiked shoulder pads adorned with human skulls.
For people who don’t dress like professional wrestlers, this story has the fluffy-kitten quality — it’s just so cute! — but this is serious business for A’s fans. Why? It gives them reassurance that somebody wearing the uniform is still capable of scoring.
