Women’s soccer brief

In its first outdoor action of the spring season, the Marquette women’s soccer team returned to Milwaukee 1-0-1 after a weekend in College Station, Texas. The Golden Eagles defeated Baylor, 1-0, and tied Texas A&M, 2-2.

Sophomore Lisa Philbin tallied Marquette’s lone goal against Baylor at the 44:57 mark. Philbin played in 17 games as a freshman in 2008 but did not play at all for the Golden Eagles in the fall 2009 season. The goal was the first of her Marquette career and was enough to finish off the Bears.

Marquette’s stellar defense from the fall carried over, as sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Kulla only had to record one save against Baylor.

Against the Aggies of Texas A&M, Marquette was not as lucky. Sophomores Lindsey Page and Kerry McBride each scored in the first half for the Golden Eagles, but the Aggies came back, scoring in the 32nd and 57th minutes to tie the game.
