Track Brief TKO1 DP2 JMc3

Junior sprinter Tyler O’Brien, who holds the school record in the 200-meter dash indoors and outdoors, endured a slight hamstring strain in practice last week, which held him out of the Milwaukee Dual Meet this past Saturday, coach Bert Rogers said.

“If Tyler would have competed, it would have made it a little bit worse and made his recovery time longer,” Rogers said. “So we decided to not have him compete.”

Rogers expects O’Brien to be back for this Friday and Saturday’s meet in Bloomington, Ind., when the team competes in the Indiana Relays.

Rogers said the name of the meet is misleading because the meet itself won’t be just relay events. Rogers thought whoever came up with the title for the meet wanted to put an emphasis on the relay events because there are two relays that are uncommon at most track meets: the 4×800-meter relay and the distance medley relay.

This weekend Rogers wants his athletes to focus on setting personal records and qualifying for the Big East Indoor Championships, because this isn’t a scored meet like the Jan. 23 meet against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
