The Marquette women’s volleyball team dropped two matches over the weekend to fall to 15-11 and 4-7 in the Big East.

The Golden Eagles became Cincinnati’s 24th straight victim to fall at Fifth Third Arena, losing in three sets (25-21, 25-14, 25-13). Marquette hit a meager .094 for the match and was never able to get any momentum going.

Junior Rabbecka Gonyo led the team with eight kills andĀ four blocks while sophomore Ciara Jones added seven kills of her own.

Marquette couldn’t right the ship two days later as it fell to Louisville in three tightly contested sets (27-25, 25-23, 25-23). The game had 30 ties and 15 lead changes.

Sophomores Ashley Beyer and Danielle Carlson led the Golden Eagles with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

The two losses dropped Marquette into a tie for 10th place in the Big East, two spots away from qualifying for the Big East tournament. The Golden Eagles have three home matches remaining to qualify for the tournament.
